Around 6 million households in Indonesia are headed by women. However, according to Indonesian law, the household head must be a man, thus a woman who finds herself as the head of her family faces a whole range of discriminatory policies and practices.
Working with an existing network of women’s groups across Indonesia, Kopernik will provide such women with training and biomass stoves on consignment. They will become technology agents and sell the products to their communities, earning commission that will provide a much-needed source of income, and new-found confidence in themselves and respect in their communities.
