Check-Out a Light

Imagine in 2012 trying to read or study at night over a single kerosene lantern. Amazingly, in Peru, approximately one out of every four people do not have access to electricity, and the rising cost of kerosene makes access to lighting increasingly difficult.

In an innovative program, inexpensive and durable solar lanterns will be provided to rural Peruvian school libraries for children to check-out (like a book). Children who want to study at night can check-out a brighter, safer and environmentally sustainable lantern to take home for the evening.

Beneficiaries will be rural Peruvian children with no income.
